Pelican Brief Issue 2
From the Principal

The term is flying by! It's quite hard to believe that we are almost half way through Term One!
P&C will be holding a general meeting this Thursday 23rd Febrauary at 4:30pm. Our books have been sent off to the accountants so all going well we are on schedule to have our AGM on Thursday 9th March, at 4:30pm. All positions will be open and we would love to see as many people from our community.
Pancake Tuesday is on the 21st Febrauary. We are going to be giving the students pancakes as part of breakfast club on Tuesday.
Swimming started today and all students are to be congratulated on their efforts. School swimming is every Friday afternoon until the end of term. This year the school has also secured a grant for sporting schools which means that on Wednesday afternoons Sam will be giving all students the opportunity for an additional swimming lesson after school. A note will go home early next week in regards to this. A big thank you to Sam for offering our students with this fantastic opportunity and a big thank you to Mrs Birchley for offering up her time after school to help with supervision.
Our year 5/6 students will be embarking on their leadership camp in week 9. An information evening for parents of these students will be organsied for the coming weeks.
Our year 3 and year 5 students also have NAPLAN coming up in week 8. This will be completed online during the morning sessions.
Last year, we worked with Josh Arnold to write "Outback and Beyond" we were lucky enough to have backroads here filming this process. The Backroads episode airs Monday night at 8pm. We understand that this is quite late. We will be playing the episode for the kids later in the week.
I hope you all have an amazing weekend.

From Mrs Birchley

Good afternoon families,
We are welcoming week 5 next week, halfway through the term!
We have now begun some assesments and this will continue through to the end of the term as the students refine and tune their learning whilst being challenged appropriately.
Lunchtimes have become quite popular for playing Hockey on the oval. Without teacher interferance the students have been working out the rules and delegating roles to each other for the game!
Breakfast club has been going well with the kids having some good bonding time in the morning to drink a milo or eat weet-bix together while they discuss what's going on with their favourtie game/show or what they had been doing over the weekend. Please remember to bring them a little bit earlier (8:25) so they are sitting down eating at 8:30, as 8:45 is when school officially starts. Our School Captain, Hayden, has taken on the role of facilitating and making the breakfasts for those who want it.
Kind regards,
Harriet Birchley
