Pelican Brief Issue 1, Term 4
From the Acting Principal

Welcome back to Term 4!
This will be a very fun albeit busy and quick term for all of us as we begin transitions for 2025!
Staff updates:
- The teacher vacancy brief is still advertised.
- In week 2 we have Michelle Sweeney, a Business Manager Coach visiting.
- In week 3 we have Matthew Letts visiting, he is our District Relief Teacher. He will be teaching the students while I am in the office.
Curriculum:
Students were amazed to see how much our cherry tomato bush had grown over the holidays, it is now overflowing onto the ground.
In Mathematics student have been looking at number lines up to 20, 120 and 1000 with unifix cubes, wooden number squares and number keys. Year 2 have been having fun playing matching and "Who has, I have" games with the three-digit numeral and MAB visual cards.
In English students have been distinguishing the differences between texts and recognising that texts are not just books. We have been writing out the personal connections we have been making to different texts.
In Science students have been looking at matter and understanding how water can be a solid, liquid and gas. We have also been observing different materials and using our senses to help us describe with more detail.
In Tech students have been creating online profiles with facts about their favourite animal and will present these soon.
In HASS students have been learning about special places and the characteristics of places from local to national scale, and how and why places are similar and different.
In HPE students have been working on fundamental movement skills and how to keep themselves and others safe.
Playgroup
We welcomed more friends into playgroup this week - George, Maeve and Saxon!
Please join us again next week for "Royal Week". Stay updated with Nell's weekly overviews on our Facebook page.
Schools Food Program
I sent out a letter this week detailing information about the School's Food Program. I have attached it to this newsletter as well.
In short, this FREE program offers breakfast (optional), fruit break, first lunch, and second lunch. You do not need to pack your child food.
Tuckshop is still available for parents to purchase for their child on a Friday.
Notices
- Please remember we are always looking for a community reader for our library on Thursday mornings. The students love when a member from the community comes into their school!
- Monday 7th October is the King's Birthday, a public holiday.
- Please find the Term 4 calendar attached.
- The construction of the Sensory Garden has been delayed until further notice.
- As it is quite hot, please make sure your child is wearing weather appropriate clothing. Amber gave everyone a pair of shorts and/or skort at the beginning of the year. If you require more, we have lots for sale.
Kind regards,
Harriet Birchley
