Pelican Brief 24th November

From the Principal's Desk

It is hard to believe that I am writing the last newsletter of the year!

It is hard to not get swept up in the craziness of the festive season. However, I have made sure to take some time out and reflect on the year that we have had. This year I could not be prouder of how our little school has blossomed.

We welcomed Mrs Birchley and her family in January and it has been so lovely to see them all become such a vital part of our Birdsville State School community. We have had the most children in our school in my time here and 'Fun Friday's' are by far everyone's favourite day; where we welcome two extra students each week.

This year we have welcomed a few extra staff into the school and we love having their faces around whether it's daily, once a week or just when we need an extra set of hands.

Of course our school would not be without our students and whilst we are in the thick of assessments and report card writing it is hard to not tear up with pride at their growth over the year. Each and every student at Birdsville State School truly displays our motto 'Strive to Succeed'. Myself and all school staff are extremley proud of each student.

Our P&C were able to be active again after COVID and we have held many successful events from Mothers Day, Colour Fun Run, Athletics Carnival and Melbourne Cup (plus more!). A huge thank you to all of our P&C team; especially the executives that make sure the agenda, minutes, and events run very smoothly.

Whilst this is our last newsletter for the year, we still have one more week left, and it is a big one! Please see below for all of our events as many of them are community events and we would love to see all of our wonderful members come together to celebrate the end of year; as well as farewell our Year Six Graduate.

Whilst it is lovely to reflect on the year that we have had; we have a very sad announcement for our little school community; Miss Venessa has decided that it is time to move on (and whilst we would like to stop this we can't). I would like to say an extra large thank you to Miss Venessa, she has been apart of our school community since 2021 and has formed so many positive relationships with all staff, children and families. She has also made sure that our admin is kept in immaculate order. On behalf of the BIrdsville state school and wider community I wish you all the best for your next chapter and thank you immensley for everything you have achieved whilst here in Birdsville.

In the same breath I would like to express that we now have two Expression of Interests available for a Teacher Aide position and Business Manager position. Please see flyers below for more information. These are for Term One with possibility of extension and I encourage everyone interested to please apply or contact me before the end of next week.

Our School pool is also closed at the moment until further notice; which means we have had to postpone our swimming carnival until Term One 2024, keep your eyes peeled for a new date.

We also have some very exciting news for 2024. Next year as part of our commitment to Equity and Excellence and starting strong we are introducing Birdsville State School Playgroup. This will be run on Friday Mornings so that our 0-5 community have the opportunity to attend playgroup five days/week. Please see the flyer below for more information on this.

Yesterday, I posted about our Community Library Sessions. We have already had lots of messages with communtiy members wanting to share their love of reading and be our guest readers. Please see the flyer below and get in contact to organise your guest reading opportunity!

Next week, we have our Awards evening, Kindy and Year Six Graduation and Comunnity Christmas event. Please see below for information on this.

Lastly, I would like to wish our graduating year six student all the best. Hayden has been a student at Birdsville State School for just over a year and a life long member of this community. He has been an absolute pleasure to have in the classroom and has shown fantastic leadership qualities this year. You will be missed, we wish you all the best for your High School chapter!

I wish you all a fantastic break and hope that you all get to enjoy some down time over the christmas holidays. Stay cool and we look forward to welcoming all students and families back in 2024.

School returns on the 22nd January.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Laura Watson

From the Teacher's Desk

Good afternoon families!

We are now at the end of the school year. How time has flown this year!

All students have been so engrossed in their last bit of learning and so excited to have started some Christmas activities. Mrs Watson has summed up the year perfectly so I will just add a little bit to that.

I want to say thank you to the whole community in being so welcoming of my family here as I begun my teaching journey this year. Especially to Mrs Watson and Miss Venessa as they have led, guided and been patient with me as I have learnt the ropes of teaching in a multi-age classroom. I have loved watching and helping all the students on their own learning journey's this year. It's amazing to flick back at their work from the beginning of the year and then to now and see how much they have completed and improved on!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

See you all next year!

Kind regards,

Mrs Birchley
