Pelican Brief October 27
From the Principal

As we move into week five, the business and timelines creep up closer and faster.
We have been keeping very busy the last couple of weeks; Mrs Birchley went away to a PLD professional development in Roma and we will be using this to restructure our literacy block in 2024.
Next week I am away for three days at the Principal Roadshow in Rochampton, Mrs Harriet Birchley will be officer in charge for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Our P&C team have been very busy at organising our Melbourne Cup event, please make sure you are following us on facebook for the most current information about the event.
We have a few very important save the dates so grab a pen and your calendar and mark them in!
- Tuesday 7th November- Melbourne Cup
- Wednesday 8th November- P&C Meeting
- Tuesday 14th-Friday 17th November- Splash 'N' Arts camp

A reminder that no supervision is given to children before 8:30am. Classroom doors will open at 8:30am and this is when supervision begins. It is very important that students are arriving after this time. School starts at 8:45am.
Moving into 2024 we were exploring some other options for our newsletter platform; we have decided to stick with SchoolZine for the next 12months. We will be having professional development sessions to ensure we are using it to its best capacity. We would love your feedback on this moving into 2024.
I hope you have a great weekend,
Laura
From the Teacher's Desk

Happy Friday!
Last week I was away attending a professional development on PLD. This is the program we use for literacy development.
"PLD provides an Australian, evidence-based approach to Structured Synthetic Phonics (SSP) for primary school educators. Aligned with the Science of Reading, PLD’s SSP approach extends from the junior primary years through to upper primary years and thereby facilitating a whole school approach.
PLD’s method is derived from the disciplines of speech pathology, occupational therapy and education. As an Australian publisher and professional development provider, PLD advocates that literacy and learning outcomes are maximised for children when their Literacy, Oral Language and Movement & Motor skills are targeted."
I will share a couple of parent education resources each newsletter. You are more than welcome to also go on to the website at https://pld-literacy.org/ to browse through parent education resources yourself.

Our seeds have sprouted! We are so excited about this. We have been measuring them and taking photos of their progress. Everyday we have been watering them to keep them happy. Yesterday we decided to check the worm wee in the worm farm, expecting only a few drops worth. Lucky we had the bucket under the spout as it came out so fast and filled our entire bucket! The plants will love this worm wee.
Kindy
This weeks marks the first full week of Kindy!
Kind regards,
Mrs Birchley
