Pelican Brief 13th October

Welcome back to Term Four!
We are set for an incredibly busy term and have plans in full swing to make it as smooth as possible. We had a fantastic end to Term Three and I hope you all enjoyed the holidays.
We had a brilliant first week with our 2023 Book Week dress up held last Friday. A fantastic effort was made by all students with their costumes and it was completed with another great scavenger hunt around the community where we got to listen to some of our favourite stories and some new ones! Thank you to Courtney for organising our book scavenger hunt.
This week we had our P&C meeting, thank you to everyone who takes the time out of their busy weeks to attend and contribute to these. Our big event this Term is our Melbourne Cup event, to keep up with the days events please make sure you follow the Birdsville State School P&C Facebook page. We also discussed our end of year awards, graduation and community Christmas evening, which will be on Thursday 30th November, details will be communicated in the coming week.

Welcome back to Term 4!
All students have settled in well and have been straight into their new learning for the term. Only 7 weeks to go after this week!
Technologies:
We planted our seeds in week 1 and the students have been watering them every day! This week the students discovered sprouts from the seeds. Everyone has been doing a great job of sorting their compost into worm farm or general compost. Worms don’t like citrus, onions or garlic so the students have been doing an excellent job of remembering this.
Maths:
Students have been busy this term in counting backwards from a certain number and our older students have been working hard at understanding equivalent fractions and adding or subtracting them.
English:
Students have started their poetry unit and are doing an excellent job of listening for rhyming words and even making up their own rhyming words. Our older students have been deep diving into poems by analysing their text structures.
Science:
Our Kindy, Prep and Grade 1 students have been learning all about materials and their properties, gearing them up to make decisions on how to make a boat that floats. The older students have been learning about matter, solid’s, liquids and gases and what examples of these we can see around us.
Swimming:
Swimming started this term and all the students had been so excited for this to start with Sam!
Reminders:
A reminder to ensure that students are arriving after 8:30am in the morning to ensure adequate supervision. Please do not leave children unattended unless you know there is a teacher inside the school, which there is by 8:30am.
Next week I will be away for Professional Development, but will be back the following week.
Kind regards,
Mrs Birchley
