Pelican Brief Issue 8
From the Principal

The last two weeks have been absolutley wonderful. We have been very busy inside the classroom and out.
Last Thursday the Kindy and Prep students went across to First Five Forever at the library. This is a highlight for both students, they now have their favourite songs that they eagerly anticipate or request. On our way back to school we stopped in at the post office to post our letters to Una and also help Sam collect the mail from the red post box and sort it before going on the Rex plane!
Last Friday our P&C hosted our first Athletics Carnival. This was a fantastic afternoon and it was amazing to see so many community members involved! A huge thank you to our P&C team who set the events up on Friday and volunteered their time with running the events. Our next P&C meeting is on Wednesday night at 5:00pm, we love seeing new faces if you would like to join please email the p&C pandc@birdsvilless.eq.edu.au.
Our Technology unit this semester is all about gardening and sustainability. We have sent out surveys for community members to have their say and have started our compost! Today we set up our worm farm! Please keep your eyes peeled for a poster in your mail soon as we are requesting scraps for our compost! Drop off times will be Monday-Thursday 8:30am-4:00pm; Friday 8:30am-2:00pm. If you would like to share your garden knowledge with our students please contact myself or Harriet.
This week Mrs Birchley has been in Longreach at the Beginning Teacher reconnect professional development and working at Longreach State School in their 5/6 classroom. This opportunity allows Mrs Birchley to network with colleagues and is going to help inform our transition processes for Term Four.
It has been very heartwarming to see all of our students learning coming together this term. Every single student has been reaching their goals in all learning areas. We are very proud of all students with their efforts. Handwriting, spelling and reading have been a very big focus over this year and we are seeing some incredible progress that all students are celebrating.
Next Wednesday we have visitors from Desert Country coming to do a water study with us. Our Birdsville Races open day is on the 31st August and Pupil Free day on the 1st September. Please see the P&C Facebook page for information on the open day.
We are excited for a very busy fortnight ahead.
Hope you all have a great weekend.
Laura
