Pelican Brief Issue 6, Term 3
From the Principal

Dear Birdsville families,
It’s been a joy and delight to be with your children here at Birdsville this last week! Thanks so much for having me!
You are very fortunate to have such great teachers and resources here in your outback school. As a District Relief Teacher I’m fortunate to travel around to many schools and I’ve very much enjoyed my time here with you all.
We hope that Mrs Watson has had a great time away on her Long Service Leave and I’m sure you are keen to see her and welcome her return!
Thank you for making sure that your children are coming to school in their uniforms as this is a practical way that they can demonstrate respect for themselves and their school. I have also been encouraging the students to take responsibility for brushing their teeth twice a day and keeping their bedrooms tidy enough to find all the things they need for school!
My great passion is singing and music and today we have been performing and singing as well as reading and painting a rainbow!
With every good wish for the rest of the term,
Song’ n smiles,
Ms Janet Hatfield
From Mrs Birchley

Hello families!
We have all been settling nicely back into our school routine after the holidays.
The students have enjoyed having Ms Panitz and Ms Hatfield teaching and learning new things with them. A big thank you to both of them for coming to Birdsville to act as our Principal.
Show and Tell
You would have all received a note about 'Show and Tell'. This is a great way for our students to practice speaking in front of a group, and practice listening skills. Also, it's a way we can learn more about each other! I will send home a note with a reminder of when your child has their show and tell coming up. The note sent home has multiple topics they can choose from.
Premier's Reading Challenge
Just a reminder that The Premier's Reading Challenge is still ongoing. Please let me know if you require a new one and I will print it for you. In the meantime, you can keep track in the notes section of your phone or on a piece of paper, of the books your child has read at home. We have our own school record here as well and everyone has been getting very competitive of who has read the most at school! Keep up the reading Birdsville SS!
Reading helps students improve their language skills, literacy, and brain development. It also helps children build character, empathy, and creativity by exposing them to different perspectives, problems, and situations. Reading also strenghens the bond between you and your child and provides the oppurtunities to discuss real-world issues and emotions.
